Gagné, Raymonde
Speaker Raymonde Gagné, born in Manitoba, has had a distinguished 35-year career in education, notably serving as President of the Université de Saint-Boniface (USB) from 2003 to 2014. During her tenure, she led the institution's transition from college to university and spearheaded its largest fundraising campaign, which supported the construction of a new health sciences building and expanded research and scholarship programs. Before her presidency, she held various leadership roles at USB and worked as a high school teacher, principal, and consultant. Gagné has contributed to numerous boards and organizations, including serving as President of the Association des universités de la francophonie canadienne and co-chairing the Consortium national de formation en santé. Appointed to the Senate in 2016, she served as Legislative Deputy to the Government Representative before becoming the 46th Speaker of the Senate in 2023. She is a member of the Order of Canada, the Order of Manitoba, and a recipient of the Prix Riel.
